Window to the Sky

It seems a stop work order has been posted at this Pacific Street/Boerum Hill address (# to follow) -- can't think why. The DoB permit posted says something about removing non-structural walls and various plumbing. But if you look closely at these photos, you can see through the windows to... the sky. And the other photo indicates that the backside of this former brownstone is... missing. Anyone know the story here?

I believe that building has been in tax limbo and infested with black mold since the 1980s. Tearing it down is the only way to go. But I have never seen a tear down like that ever. Usually the place is dismantled from the roof down; not back to front. I think that must be why the stop work order was placed.

Was occupied as rooming house till
recently; tenants thrown out with no compensation. I think stop work order has been withdrawn as of 8/1
or around that time. Perhaps a new one posted... I live across the st. and will check this afternoon.
Block gadflies were getting DOB on the case, thankfully.
